OUT OF TIME
Tina Marsh & the Bob Rodriguez Trio

“Marsh’s vocals incorporate elements of some of the pioneers of radical vocal artistry, but without giving up structure or swing. (This) is even more pronounced in this small group setting, where she clearly regales as a Jazz singer… When she sings a tried and true standard… it is with the innocence of someone singing it for the first time.” CADENCE Magazine

FROM THE LINER NOTES

For many years I have had the great privilege to work with Bob in the large jazz composers’ group, the Creative Opportunity Orchestra. Our connection was immediate and has had a profound effect on me artistically as well as personally. He understand me so well, and can musically transform a tired or clichéd song into a vehicle I am dran to as a mirror and as a portal into other realms. With him, original compositions and well-worn standards are equally interesting and evocative. And Kenny, the Sicilian Angel, (whom I alsow know from many years in the CO2) has a vast heart and enthusiastic insight into music which he offers me so freely and with great persistence. Ron came into the group of Bob’s invitation, and he supplies an undulating and shimmering groove which is an excellent foil to Bobby’s dense reharmonizations and arrangements. We played a few gigs in New York and then went into the studio. After this session sat on the shelf for ages, it was Ken who wrote to volunteer himself and Bob to mix it. I trusted them implicitly. Out of Time is the first quartet offering from me on CreOp Muse, and really does represent many of the things we do. I look forward to so much more. I hope you like the music.
