BRIAN ALLEN, trombone Brian Allen attended the Texas Tech University School
of Music, earning a Masters in Composition and a
Bachelors in Trombone Performance, studying trombone with Don Lucas and Robert Deahl and composition with Dr. Van Appledorn, Dr. Peter Fischer, Dr. Steve Paxton and Dr. Ken Metz He has also studied at Banff and the University of North Texas.
He has performed with Anthony Braxton, Dave Ballou, Mark Dresser, Ellery Eskelin, Michael Formanek, Satoko Fujii Duo and Orchestra NY, Frank Gratkowski, Drew Gress, Clay Jenkins, Roswell Rudd, Michael Sarin, Fritz Welch, and Nate Wooley. Brian's current projects include the Brian Allen Trio with Tony Malaby and Tom Rainey, duo with Reuben Radding and Brain Killer, a duo with pianist Jacob Koller. Brian has released five CDs: Synapse - Trio with Tony Malaby and Tom Rainey, Duo (with Reuben Radding,) Solo Trombone, Brain Killer and Sketchy and toured the southwest extensively in support of these releases. Brian is a recent recipient of a Meet the Composer Global Connections Grant for Mexico in 2007. He named a finalist in 2005 Antti Rissanen Jazz Trombone Competition in Kotka, Finland. He is grant recipient from the TTU Graduate School and School of Music to present a NYC concert of new works for his duo with Radding. Under Brian's direction, the TTU Trombone Band, Burnin'!, was winner of the 2005 Eastern Trombone Workshop Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition. In 2003, Brian was awarded a residency from Diverse Works, of Houston, to present new works with Brain Killer. Brian has had compositions premiered several international, national and regional festivals and conferences. Brian's compositions include wind ensemble, electronica, jazz ensemble, and chamber ensembles. He is an active clinician for the Edwards Instrument Company, and has written etudes for IAJE National and Texas All State Auditions for the past six years.
